Indicaciones: La ivermectina está indicada para el tratamiento de la estrongiloidiasis (nemátodo; infección causada por un tipo de parásito que entra al organismo penetrando la piel, llega a las vías respiratorias y se aloja en el intestino). La ivermectina se usa también para controlar la oncocercosis (ceguera de los ríos; infección con un tipo de parásito que provoca sarpullido, protuberancias debajo de la piel y problemas de la vista, como pérdida de visión o ceguera). La ivermectina pertenece a una clase de medicamentos llamados antihelmínticos. En el caso de la estrongiloidiasis, actúa destruyendo los parásitos presentes en el intestino. En el caso de la oncocercosis, destruye los parásitos en desarrollo. La ivermectina no mata los parásitos que causan la oncocercosis y, por lo tanto, no cura este tipo de infección.
